BETWEEN THE BANTER

FROM DANIEL’S BRAIN…

Alright, before y'all start yelling at me, let me be clear: I love Dontrell Glover.

The guy was an absolute revelation last season. He got thrown into a tough spot, played well, and proved he's more than capable of helping Georgia win football games. Every Dawg fan should be thrilled he's on this roster.

But I think we've reached the point where people are starting to overcorrect.

Everywhere I look, I see national media members ranking Georgia's offensive line or projecting starters, and they talk about Dontrell Glover like he's unquestionably ahead of Juan Gaston. Maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see it.

Let's not forget who Kirby Smart originally had in the starting rotation as a true freshman. It wasn't by accident that Juan Gaston was earning those opportunities before injuries got in the way. At Georgia, freshmen don't sniff the field unless the staff believes they're special.

That's why I'm planting my flag now.

I think Juan Gaston is one of the most underrated players on this entire football team.

The talent has never been the question. The size, athleticism, and upside are all there. If he's healthy, I wouldn't be shocked at all if he ends up having the better season and makes a lot of these preseason takes look silly.

This isn't a shot at Dontrell Glover. It's just a reminder that two things can be true at once: Glover is a really good player... and Juan Gaston might be even better.

Don't be surprised if we're talking a whole lot more about Juan Gaston by the end of the season than we are right now.

FROM CLINT’S BRAIN…

Georgia has quietly become the poster child for “keep your own guys” in the NIL era — and it’s very intentional.

Instead of throwing money at every shiny name in the transfer portal, Kirby Smart is betting that a deep, veteran roster beats a yearly roster.

Under the House v. NCAA revenue‑sharing model, programs basically have two options: pay up for proven transfers, or sink serious money into recruits and then spend even more to keep them around. Georgia has gone all‑in on that second lane. Roughly three‑quarters of its projected $35 million player payroll in 2026 is aimed at retention, not splashy portal headlines. Smart’s philosophy really is as simple as he’s made it sound: “relationships over transactions.”

The financial setup behind that is evolving, too. Georgia has shifted from the old collective world into a revenue‑sharing base, then stacked on a Learfield‑run “Glory Glory” NIL platform to pile on above‑cap marketing money. That lets the program push past $30 million in effective payroll while still keeping most of those dollars tied to Bulldogs already in the locker room.

The payoff is obvious: multiple SEC titles, a four‑year run that’s as good as anyone in the sport, and a 2026 roster loaded with players who have spent three or more years in Athens. The open question is whether that “veterans first” approach can keep beating portal‑built superteams in a 12‑team playoff, where one bad night can undo years of patient roster building.

All-Time Kirby Smart UGA Team Offense…

In today's episode:

Daniel and Clint work together to construct the Offense for the All-Kirby Team choosing from the best players to play at UGA in the Kirby Smart Era. Much debate ensues, many late 90s early 2000s TV references are made, and at one point the guys make a simeltaneous reference to a hanging chad which should have signified the end of the show forever...but it didn't.
